This role supports our fundraising activities – enabling individuals to donate to the Trust at venues within their local community in static collection tins.

General Information:

Herefordshire Wildlife Trust is a member of The Wildlife Trusts, a nationwide network of local trusts that work to protect wildlife in town and country. Through their care of a network of nature reserves and a range of other conservation and education activities, The Wildlife Trusts are striving for a UK richer in wildlife.  Volunteers are vital not only to practical conservation tasks but also the administrative work that is required to support and promote membership, management of reserves, project work and events.

This role supports our fundraising activities – enabling individuals to donate to the Trust at venues within their local community in static collection tins.

Volunteers in this role may wish to take responsibility only for one tin at a venue local to them or multiple tins – either is of great help to the Trust and much appreciated!

Main tasks:

  • To identify local, private venues who may agree to host an HWT collection tin e.g. a shop, café or pub.
  • Approach venue owners/ managers for permission and obtained a signed permission form.
  • Visit each venue regularly (monthly or as required) to swap an empty tin for a filled tin, taking that tin directly to the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust Offices at Queenswood Country Park & Arboretum, Dinmore Hill, HR6 0PY. Empty and count cash in the office, completing a Collection Tin Monitoring Form, and leave form and cash with the finance team.
  • Report any missing or damaged collection tins or suspected misuse/ theft.

Skills/Qualities Needed

  • Attention to detail; strong numeracy
  • The volunteer will be a ‘face’ of the Trust in this role and must be courteous and friendly.
  • Due to the nature of this role we will be asking for two Character references.

Training

  • Training will be provided on how to fill in all relevant forms.
  • You will be provided with a letter of authority and badge which you should have displayed whenever visiting venues to check tins or replace/ remove tins.
  • During the coronavirus pandemic, if restrictions allow visits to your venue(s), you will additionally be provided with hand sanitizer, disposable gloves and facemask if required.

Expenses

The Volunteer may claim their travel expenses incurred travelling to and from their volunteering duties and any training sessions, (considering the shortest distance) with authorisation from their Volunteer Manager.
