Photography Competition

Our annual photography competition is back and we're looking to choose twelve winning photographs to feature in Herefordshire Wildlife Trust's 2027 Calendar.

Entries open on 1st March 2026 and the deadline for submissions is 30th June 2026.

The winning twelve entries will feature in our calendar and winning photographers will receive a free copy.

What we are looking for

We're looking for images that celebrate Herefordshire's wildlife and natural habitats so the main subject of your photo should be:

  • a native species of flora or fauna
  • a wildlife-friendly habitat or landscape, for example, a native woodland, wildflower meadow, hedgerow, riverside or pond

Photos must have been taken in Herefordshire.

We select photos relevant to the season (we often receive a huge number of photos suitable for representing the spring and summer months but fewer for autumn and winter!)

We are looking for ‘natural’ photos so please avoid the use of effects and filters.

Images must be landscape in profile and large enough to print at A4. This usually means a file size of at least 1MB.

Photograph with care...

It is important not to disturb wildlife when trying to get a great photo.

  • Don't get too close and move away if wildlife shows signs of stress e.g. birds alarm calling.
  • Be aware that some species are protected by law and extra care should be taken when encountering these.
  • Do not use recorded calls or other lures to attract wildlife

Similarly, do no damage to habitats, avoid trampling plants and flowers by staying on paths.

Further information is available in the Nature Photographers' Code of Practice: The Nature Photographer's Code of Practice
