Would you like to help with merchandising and selling items and providing members of the public with information about the Country Park?

We are looking for people who are friendly and confident in speaking to the general public but no previous experience is necessary.

The shop is raising funds to support Herefordshire Wildlife Trust’s work at Queenswood and across the county caring for wildlife and landscapes.

Full training is provided.

Hours: Half and full day shifts available: 9:15am to 12:45pm and 12:45pm to 4.15pm every day, although there is some flexibility to make it work for you too.

Our shop volunteers also have the option to help us with outdoor tasks too, such as litter picking, health and safety playground checks, checking or emptying bins, sweeping and weeding the paving around the visitor centre, cleaning the mobility vehicles etc.

I volunteer with Herefordshire Wildlife Trust on Wednesdays at Queenswood. I start my day before 9am with playground checks and a litter pick around the site which strangely I describe as the best part of my day! It really is a mindful walk, the arboretum is peaceful, with just a few dog walkers to say 'good morning' to with the sun appearing through the trees, as I listen to the birdsong, become aware of the trees and new flowers or fungi that have appeared since last week. It's so therapeutic to be amongst trees. I get back about 10, just time to collect a welcoming hot chocolate from the cafe for when the Visitor Centre opens. Then until lunchtime I mainly help in there - serving customers, dealing with queries, perhaps unpacking and labelling new stock or laminating posters to advertise the many events happening around Queenswood. Whatever needs doing really, which makes it so varied.

It's really rewarding to meet visitors from near and far, some of whom remember childhood visits and are returning with their grandchildren. So important to encourage all ages and abilities to appreciate the beauty and variety of trees as they progress throughout the year.
