Butterfly Monitoring Assistant

Queenswood Country Park and Arboretum, Dinmore Hill, Leominster, Herefordshire, HR6 0PY
We are looking for someone who is curious about butterflies to help us monitor their numbers by species.

Monthly

Main tasks:

  • Butterfly monitoring once a month April to October.
  • One hour walk around the Arboretum and the North Wood at Queenswood Country Park & Arboretum.
  • Count the number of butterflies per species in each of 13 locations and upload these data to the UK butterfly monitoring Scheme database.

 

Skills/Qualities

  • Interest in butterflies but no previous experience needed.
  • Commitment to one count per month but dates are flexible.
  • Ability to access the database on a computer essential - training will be given.
  • Experience volunteering with a group of like-minded individuals.
  • Happy to be outdoors whatever the weather.
  • Friendly and enthusiastic. 
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
