About the event

No previous knowledge is required – the idea is that using our various ID aids, we can pool our skills to discover and identify the plants we come across. We can take photos, do drawings, make notes. It is a fun and satisfying way to discover and extend our repertoire of plant identification. No need to pre-book, just meet at the south end of the Greenway Bridge at 6:30 pm on Tuesday 24th June.

If you really want to get in close to the features on a plant, you can use a simple clip-on macro lens with your camera phone. Getting up close can help to ID when, for example, the difference between two plants of the same family may be some tiny hairs along the edge of a leaf which can be seen more clearly with a magnifier or a macro lens. Below is an example of how a macro can reveal the secrets of a ribwort flower head. (For info on macros just put clip-on macro into your search engine. There are loads of different brands.

The one used below was part of an Apexel 4 in one clip-on lens package for £17.99 bought about 3 years ago. Make sure the lens is compatible with your camera. A 15X macro is a good, useful magnification.)
