Ice Age Explorer: Mammoth

Ice Age Explorer: Mammoth

Mammoth

There once was a time when mammoths roamed the Earth. As big as elephants, they walked the same land as you are walking on now! But instead of drinking water from the tap like we do, they would drink from the Ice Age Ponds in Herefordshire, like a modern-day watering hole. Imagine that! Follow all the clues for a mammoth themed prize at the end. Good luck!

Mammoth bones have been found fossilised at the bottom of Ice Age Ponds just like these in the UK, the age of the ponds mean that peat has accumulated and acts as both a carbon sink and also a brilliant preservative for exciting Ice Age finds.
