There’s a free and easy way to support your local river! Twice a year The Rivers Trust run a Big River Watch weekend – a simple citizen science activity launched to help build a picture of river health across the UK and Ireland.  

Check The Rivers Trust website for the next event dates, then simply download the free Big River Watch survey app, find a riverside location that you can spend 15 minutes observing, and answer some simple questions in the app. 

Location: 

Any riverside location in the UK or Ireland. 

Level of commitment: 

Low – the survey only takes 15 minutes.  

Training required: 

None, just follow the simple questions in the app.  

Kit needed / provided: 

A mobile phone which you can use to download the free Big River Watch survey app. 

Outcome: 

Contribute to a national data set that will help to build a picture of river health.
