Improvements for people and wildlife at Bodenham Lake this autumn

As part of our ongoing Bodenham Lake Reedbed Project staff, volunteers and contractors are busy making improvements to the site this autumn.

In September, improvements to the tracks and the car park get underway. Whilst the work is ongoing certain parts of the site may need to be temporarily closed to allow the work to be completed as quickly as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience but ask visitors to be respectful of any signage advising of limited access.

Also this month, work will be started to restore Church Meadow to be richer in wildflowers and grasses. The meadow will initially be harrowed to create bare ground – not attractive but an important step - and then staff and volunteers will spread new seed to increase the variety of flowers in the meadow. The works will be done during September and the results will be on show next summer!

In recent years we have reprofiled areas of the lake and planted reeds to create a greater area of reedbed – an important and increasingly scared habitat for wetland wildlife. Some of our reedbeds are now becoming overshadowed by tree growth along the lake margin so, to help the reeds continue to expand we will be removing some of the trees along the margins during this autumn.

A big thanks to National Highways’ Network for Nature programme for funding the work at Bodenham Lake.
