Installation of floating islands at Bodenham Lake Nature Reserve: Tender Documents

Invitation to Tender:

‘Design and installation of floating islands at Bodenham Lake Nature Reserve’

In March 2016, Herefordshire Wildlife Trust (HWT) took over management of Bodenham Lake Nature Reserve in partnership with New Leaf. Bodenham Lake was formed by gravel extraction and as a result is steep sided and extremely deep. HWT have secured funding to transform Bodenham Lake into a thriving nature reserve, containing valuable habitats for wildlife. The first stage of the project took place in autumn 2018, when the margin of the lake was re-profiled to create nearly 1 hectare of reedbed. This tender is for stage two of the project; to design and deliver installation of floating islands at Bodenham Lake.

It is anticipated this project will have a number of steps, described in further detail below:

1. Design a number of floating islands, equating to a minimum of 300m2, to maximise the ecological value of
Bodenham Lake Nature Reserve.

2. Supply 300m2 of floating islands containing native wetland plants and gravel suitable for ground nesting birds.

3. Installation of islands at Bodenham Lake Nature Reserve.

The contract will be funded by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Delivering Nutrient Management Project. As such, the procurement and execution of this contract will follow ERDF regulations.
