The Lost Words Campaign in Herefordshire

Herefordshire Wildlife Trust is working with local artist Richard Bavin to run a campaign to encourage people to donate £10 to purchase a copy of The Lost Words for every primary school in Herefordshire.

All over the country, there are words disappearing from children's lives. These are the words of the natural world - Dandelion, Otter, Bramble and Acorn, all gone. The rich landscape of wild imagination and wild play is rapidly fading from our children's minds.

The Lost Words stands against the disappearance of wild childhood. It is a joyful celebration of nature words and the natural world they invoke. With acrostic spell-poems by award-winning writer Robert Macfarlane and hand-painted illustration by Jackie Morris, this enchanting book captures the irreplaceable magic of language and nature for all ages.

We would love all children in Herefordshire to be able to explore this wonderful book and the wildlife that has inspired it. By donating a copy to each primary school in the county, we hope to bring a little of the magic of the natural world into the classroom and lives of both children and teachers!

All donors will be entered into a raffle to win an ink drawing of an otter by Jackie Morris created especially for us!
