Invisible Traces: Tracking the Impact of Climate Change on Invertebrates Through eDNA, Trellech, 10am to 12 noon
Wet Meadow, Trellech, Monmouthshire, NP25 4AX.
Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring how environmental DNA (eDNA) can help us monitor the impacts of climate change on invertebrate biodiversity.
Invertebrates such as bees, butterflies, and the iconic noble chafer beetle play essential roles in ecosystems—but their populations are increasingly affected by changing climate patterns. eDNA offers a powerful tool for detecting shifts in emergence timing and for identifying species newly arriving in an area, helping us monitor and respond to ecological change.
In this session, we’ll begin with a short talk introducing: what eDNA is and how it works; how eDNA can detect species presence from soil, water, and surfaces; why it’s a powerful tool for tracking changes in invertebrate communities over time.
After the talk, we’ll head outdoors to demonstrate and take part in eDNA sampling techniques designed to capture traces left behind by target invertebrates, including bees, woodland butterflies, and noble chafer beetles. Organised by The eDNA Consultancy
